Hi, I’m Alys S. Brooks.

I’m a writer, developer, and editor living in Madison, Wis. My professional interests include:

• Software—and documentation—that’s approachable and empowers. As a writer and developer, I’ve worked with other developers, designers, and customer support to ensure the tools we’ve developed meet users’ actual concerns and needs.
• Social justice-focused journalism. I report stories that impact LGBT people, people of color, women, and other marginalized groups. I’m committed to writing with the people affected as the intended audience — not just the privileged majority.
• Stories about queer and trans people. I’ve written stories for both children and adults that are filled with trans and queer people.

Before I was a freelance writer and developer, I was a technical writer at Epic. I’m also a tutor and sometime photographer.
